Those of you who thought about attending the VSCDA Fall Finale but passed
because of a weather forcast missed a fantastic event. I didn't see any blue
lips, fingernails or spirits all weekend. What did happen is most everybody got
into a garage and out of the wind.
The Triumphs were all in the small bore group and we dominated! Tractor motor
Triumphs swept the podium, all three of us with sub-1:50
times. Jeff Snook took the honors, I came in second and Mark Wheatley rounded
out the top three. Dave Spiwak was moving once again coming off the outright
win at Lime Rock, he took fifth running a 1:52.0.
I believe it was at the Gold Cup race a couple years back when George Wright,
Mike Jackson, Jeff Snook and I were talking, comments being made on how as I
was moving towards the front end of the pack. One of them said "It is one thing
to catch us... Passing us is another story all together!" Those words proved to
be quite true when it came to passing Jeff and making it stick!
I spent several sessions watching the back of his TR3 from very close
proximity. We went two wide through many turns, but I never capitalized enough
to make much stick.
Jeff was on the pole for both races and I got to turn two first both times, (I
think Jeff is still looking for yellow paint on his car from turn one in the
feature!) but kudos to Glen Effinger for getting Jeff a bunch more power this
year. Jeff's top end pulled me at the end of the back straight. George, Randy,
Mike, Mark, and whoever else I am forgetting, the bar has been raised. Time to
get to work!
My salvation is I turned the fast lap for the group, a 1:48.46, compared to
Jeff's 1:48.54. Margin of victory was .3 seconds in traffic.
Mark turned an incredible 1:49.69 and had all kinds of fun with a big Healey
piloted by Bob Dillon. No, not THAT Bob Dillon...
Bill Dentinger's frog blue TR3 ran strong all weekend, but Bill, you need to
check your car's prostate. It took "marking it's territory" to a new level!
Gotta fix that tinkle...
Dale Oesterle and Wayne Obry were running there Spitfires well in the
qualifying race, not sure about the feature.
Bob Wismer had a ball with his S2, and since his car was was trouble free he
had more time to find another tub of Oil-Dry for Bill!
We shared the track with the Porsche club of Ohio. The guys I talked to were
really nice, they were quite grateful to have teamed up with VSCDA. Both clubs
got to run Mid-Ohio without big financial loss, and I think the Porsche guys
got a big kick watching us race. I'll bet I had 6 Porsche people come up to me
while I was loading saying they had a ball watching me "and that white car"
battle it out. I even saw Porsche guys with our time sheets! There was one
Porsche guy we are not going to convert, I am afraid... He kept going around
with a cup of Oil-Dry covering up my puddles!
Thanks to Beady Eye for a great season of Wine and Cheese parties, this one was
tons of fun as usual. It was the perfect event to end the season.

PS. To all VSCDA members, this was Judy Cull's last event as registrar. It
might be nice to drop her an email thanking her for all her great work.
