Subject: [FOT] Nomination
I wish to nominate Bob Coan. Bob is the son of Jimmy Coan who worked for me
and the Triumph Competition Department for many years. Bob is a racer with a
long heritage in racing and will be very happy to join a group such as this.
I've attached a outline of Bob's career in cars and racing.
Please, a second for this nomination?

Kas,
Here is a short bio for Friends of Triumph.
My name is Bob Coan, son of Jim Coan. I was raised around Southern
California SCCA racing in the 60's and 70's spending lots of time at the
tracks and the Gardena Triumph racing shop. It was great being around the
Triumph racing programs and I always dreamed about becoming a racecar
driver. I loved the Spitfires, GT6, TR6, and Jaguar's.
I vividly remember Don Devendorf as the original drifter and loved watching
him slide the GT6 around the tight turns. Carl Swanson, and Jim Ditmore.
Mostly I remember Lee Mueller and his colorful personality. I remember going
to lots of races and hanging out at Joe Huffaker's shop in Petaluma watching
them fabricate amazing cars with Lee Mueller racing the V-12 Jaguar (LSD
Car), and Terry Visger racing the MGB.
My Dad bought a MK3 67 Spitfire from Terry Visger and we rebuilt the entire
car and I owned that car for 28 years. I also owned a TR3, and a TR6.
I started racing in my 30s..a KT 100 two stroke racing kart. I raced karts
for three years gaining experience and learning to run my own program.
Eventually I built an ITA Mazda RX7 that won many SCCA and NASA races. Later
I converted it to Pro-7 and won many more races in the most competitive
class in Cal Club at the time. I still have a shifter kart that keeps me
satisfied when I can't race.
I have now relocated to Nashville Tennessee, and now have a very nice GP MK2
Spitfire, which I am planning to convert to Vintage racing rules, and style
it after the original factory #3 MK3 Spitfire. I would love to become a
member of Friends of Triumph so I can make contacts, find parts, and know
about events.
Here is a link to photos of my GP Spitfire the way it looks today.

Bob Coan
