Mike, I wouldn't use the D washers. I know Mark thinks they're  
important, but I think you're better off with a good, hard washer and  
a locking mechanism for the nut. Even with a fairly thick D washer  
the washer edge cuts into the base threads when you torgue the nut. I  
don't like 'em.

I've locktited the ones on Peyote with no problems and the new ones  
I'm putting on my resurrected Cheater TR3 and the Ambro I'm building  
I drilled for a lockwire between a corner of the nut and the end of  
the axle. I'm using thick lockwire. I don't think it will ever spin  
losoe accidentally.

I talked Washers USA into selling a small quantity to me.  http:// 
www.washersusa.com/ and if you google "shim washers" you'll find lots  
of suppliers. they like large minimum orders, but if you call rather  
than email you can probably buy some. after all, they're already  
talking to you, eh?
