Thought you might like to know. I just got my high-torque starter back from
the repair shop. $98 bucks! At least it's cheaper than buying a new one. The
guy at the shop (who is a racer, although not sporty cars) tells me that the
armature was bad and he thinks the reason is...HEAT! On a TR-6 engine the
starter is only about 2" from the header pipes. His suggestion was to put a
heat shield between the headers and the starter. Is there one already on
the market? Would it be feasible to put header-wrap around the starter? How
about wrapping the headers where they go under the starter?
