The system I used with great success for years was to have a bronze scroll INSERT threaded down the stock iron guide (done at the machine shop). No extra clearance and they don't seem to wear. When finally worn then you pull out that scroll and thread in another, ream and finished. Stopped all my problems with misfit rockers and valve stem contact.
