I suspect it's not guilty silence--just that no one has an answer. I haven't
done any NDT testing other than Magnaflux and dye penetrant in twenty years.
I recall that we always worried about where we tested for hardness because
dimples became the beginning of stress cracks. Lifters, however, are
supposed to be flat--not domed. You takes your choice--rollers or flat.
Nothing in between. Flat is good, domed is bad. Flat rotates, domed or
dished stalls and wears.
I suspect that I couldn't make a dimple in the ceramic lifters. They'd
either slide the rockwell tester aside, or they'd crack like an egg.
