Additionally, racing on Italy's historic Autodrome Nazionale at Monza
is under threat after a civil court in Milan upheld a formal complaint
by local residents and ordered an immediate noise level
restriction. The circuit was opened in 1922 (before the complaintants
were born), but the magistrate bluntly described the Italian Grand
Prix as, "a socially useless activity that has a major impact on the
environment."
The Monza management will undoubtedly appeal and expects backing from the
national government.
