I'm sitting in a restaurant in Sonoma thinking that I'm glad I have my point
setup always in the trailer. I can yank the Pertronics at the first sign of
problems. I think that fact keeps the little bastard honest.

I will have to agree with those that do not like Petronix. I have never
recommended them for street cars as they have a tendency to die just like
the old Lucas electronic ignition. If you have been paying attention to some
of the news lately, several new car manufacturers are having problems with
their cars dying unexpectedly. They are having several recalls on this
replacing ignition units. We, those with LBCs that had electronic ignition,
were not that lucky to be covered by extended warranties. I replaced many
Lucas electronic units with standard point systems and had no further
problems. The cars I used to build for racing were also powered by modified
Lucas units with points. Ran up to 7,000rpm with no problem with a Lucas
sport coil and copper wire core wires. I also ran only .025" plug gap so
maybe that was why I never experienced problems inside the cap. The spark
had an easy time getting thru the system and did not need to search for
other methods to ground. It will not matter to me how much they say they
improve the Petronix, past troubles have me convinced not to ever use them.
I am now trying a Mallory dual point but with their electronic module
instead of points. Barry
