The Mitty started out kind of like that, a lot of track time for a few
groups. But as the sport got popular and more and more types of cars came to
race, the number of groups got larger. To accommodate them all, and they had
to accommodate them so they could get that entry fee, the sessions had to
get shorter.
I just want to add to what Barry has already said.
If you look at what happened to SCCA in the 70s, when it went from being a
"club" to "Inc.", it became more of a big bidness & had to start adding more
& more classes in order to accomodate the paying customers, the racers. This
is what helped Vintage racing in its early days, it attracted a lot of SCCA
Prod car folks that were burned-out on all the constant rules & class
changes. Now the same thing has happened to Vintage but it's a $$ making
proposition
for the folks who run it & they have to approach it as that. I don't know
the solution but this is what makes groups like SCCA Vintage & VDCA, etc, look
much more attractive today (shameless plug for Mike Jackson & VDCA), they get
back to the basics of racing & getting track time without all the frills
