Currently, VARA requires the latest Snell approved helmet. I can see that
in the future there ought to be a requirenment for updating or
re-certifying the Hans or any device. That may be costly but, likely be a
good thing in the long run.

Dr. Hubbard asked that exact same question. His answer to himself and us
was - You may only need the device once in your entire racing carreer.
=====In club racing cars like mine will reach just over 120...cornering
speeds vary...but unlike F1,
Cart, Nascar there is usually lots of runoff room at all tracks and tires
are aplent along with gravel/sand etc.
It was just last year at one of our most forgiving tracks (Buttonwillow)
that a car went off track accross the large flat sandy runnoff stopping at a
berm, killing the driver with a basilar skull fracture upon impact. He was
going several fold slower than 120mph at the time of impact. We saw video
footage during the Hubbard presentation of "slow" crashes... it is just
amazing to see how much the seat belts stretch the seats buckle and what
happens inside the cockpit. Seeing is believing. You would never expect
such at the begining of the race -all cozy and tight clamped into your seat.
