Waterford Hills has turtles, ground hogs and the occasional deer.
Ground hogs are as bad to workers as racers. We've had a couple
of flaggers blow out knees when they found the holes.
Grattan has a problem in the spring with geese. Not only the droppings,
but also on the track. Also have turtles there.
When the Detroit Grand Prix was on Belle Isle, it wasn't uncommon
for squirrels to try to cross the track. More than one ended up
under the front end of a ChampCar. Also funny to watch the driver
trying to evade the squirrel. Although most drivers were smart enough
not to swerve too hard.

Subject: Re: VDCA at VIR and track critters
I think it's time we create a log of track critter hazards. I'll start:
Mid-Ohio - skunks
Texas World Speedway - armadillos
Hallet - turtles
VIR - turkeys
You probably saw the article in Victory Lane about the armadillo run
down by an Allard. The corner workers asked the owner how he wanted it
barbequed. In Texas, they barbeque anything that isn't moving, so don't
sit still too long.
