I have always set the overdrive unit in a cinder block with the open end
facing upright using only the four outer springs. After lining up the two sets
of
splines in the overdrive, I lower the transmission down and move the input
shaft slightly, trying not to misalign the two sets of splines.
Sometimes, it would go right together, and other times it took several tries.
When the second set of splines suddenly engage, I am leaning on it
desperately trying to get a nut on one bolt before it jumps out again.
