I understand, and agree.
In the late 1970s and very early 1980s Ole Blue still had it's windscreen and
rag top in place from when it was converted from a race car to a streetable
car for a short period of time. At that time, the roll bar allowed for the top
to be put up. In the 1970s vintage sanctioning groups like the VSCDA only
encouraged roll bars, they didn't insist. As you can imagine, many of the
pre-WWII group fought this issue, tooth and nail. They were major players in
vintag
e then. When the vintage sanctioning groups started insisting on a roll bar
two inches above the driver's helmet, we converted Ole Blue back to strict
racing trim, and added a loop to the roll bar to get it above my helmet.
I could be wrong, but my comment suggested some vintage sanctioning groups
either waive or look the other way for that 2" rule for closed cars.
