Inquiring mind wants to know.....In the aftermath of my Mosport blow-up, I
have a few decisions to make. I want to finish the TR4A, and to minimize the
risk of future problems I now plan on adding JE pistons and a Moldex crank to
the Carillo rods that came with that car. As for the TR4, I will be putting it
up for sale as soon as it's back together, and in the interest of keeping the
asking price down and not taking too much more of a beating, I will stick with
x-ray'd stock prepped rods and a nitrided crank. As for pistons and liners,
what is the best recommendation for building a budget race engine. The County
Brand kit, sold by BPNW and MOSS in includes what are purported to be Mahle
style pistons, Deves rings and some UK supplied liners. That's what I had in
the TR4, but they don't sell individual pieces. The pistons seem heavy as
compared to AE Hepolites. VB can only tell me that their kits come from the
UK. I suspect they are the same. I couldn't get TRF on the phone earlier, but
I believe they have the 4 ring pistons based on the drawing in their
literature. For reference, BPNW sells their 87 MM kit for $390.00. It's hard
to justify much at that price.
