Hi all!
Several of us just happened to be in the paddock at track's edge exiting
Turn 1 at Mosport for the second-to-last race on Sunday when two
open-wheel cars exiting the turn spun into the grass, collided heavily
and hit the tire wall. Then a third racer locked up his brakes on the
track next to the commotion and was rear-ended by another one. Three of
the drivers were fine, but one of the first two, in a red FF 1600 with
Honda sponsorship decals, was obviously hurt. He got out of the car,
limped to the tire wall, leaned over it, then collapsed onto the ground.
The paramedics arrived promptly and after some time, left with him on a
backboard.
I emailed Mike Rosen, president of VARAC, and inquired about this
driver. Here is his response:

"Susan:
Glad you enjoyed your "Mosport Experience"
Jack Velden, an ex Toronto guy now living in Georgia, was released from
hospital yesterday wearing a back brace...he may need some surgery when
he gets home...there may some bone chips.
An accident like that is never good but it could have been a whole lot
worse.
I'll pass your concern on to Jack...he's still up here for a while
Thanks
Y'all come back now hear?
Mike"

You might want to send Mike some emails for Jack to let him know we are
thinking about him and hoping he heals quickly. His address is:

One thing I thought was neat in our Thursday driver's meeting was the
fact that their people are all class 3 medics or higher. They have
several doctors there as well. The racing was actually paused for a
while on Saturday due to two of the ambulances having to respond to a
horrible wreck on the highway a mile from the track.
Keep Triumphing,
Susan :)
