Interesting when you consider reliability...I started buying Toyota's back
when US brands couldn't get around the block without breaking down.
I worked at a Datsun/Buick dealership as Chief Car Washer in high school.
When new cars came in, all we had to do is clean up the Datsuns and put them
on the lot. The Buicks usually spent 2 or 3 days in shop bolting on the
parts that had fallen off in transit and getting them to run properly.
My current runabout is a 1996 Toyota Corolla with 245,000 miles on it. I
have replaced the oil (Castrol Semi Synthetic), tune up parts, tires and
brakes as needed. Other than that I have replaced a cracked exhaust
manifold, a starter, a steering knuckle and...the front right corner when I
got a little too close to a Dodge Intrepid (hate to admit that one). The car
has never seen the inside of a shop for mechanical work - I bought the
Haynes Manual of course and have done all the work myself.
The Corolla is manufactured in America, by the way. Toyota ran some
commercials awhile back, "You can weld the hood shut" - I agree!
A Toyota Corolla can safely transport TR4 Short Bubble bonnets as well...
