Hmmm. I'm running a Quaife unit with a 4:11 (at least that's what Baxter
says it is) and I drained the oil (Redline) last week as part of my
general maintenance. The oil was a little toasted (discolored and a little
burnt smell), but not much. I thought of running a temperature guage to it
some time ago--at the same time that I was going to instrument the
transmission. Right now I don't think I'm putting out enough horsepower to
worry about it much, but I plan to increase the ponies somewhat this
winter. I also plan to switch to a disk-type LSD. I don't think that much
of the Quaife. Slips too much.

What does he say about using a synthetic gear oil? Amsoil seemed to lower

the temperature in both the gear box and differential, and they quit
blowing
up. Hopefully, Redline will do the same thing.
