Trailers are scary. I dinged the rear doors of my brand new (18 miles)
Yukon by driving the race car into the trailer without the hitch clamped.
I was riding my Ducati in the Colorado 500 (a road trip around the
state--more like the Colorado 1250) up a really steep grade, when I saw a
little camper trailer go by in the opposite direction. No car, just the
trailer. It negotiated the gentle turn and cruised out of sight, followed
a couple of seconds later by a couple of completely unconcerned-looking
bluehairs. I doubt they even knew the trailer was gone.
I'm going to triple-check my hitch this weekend, I'm hauling up to Seattle
for the Sovern Spring Fling. I really need to get some new tires for
Peyote sometime soon. My TAs are totally junk.

Reminds me of the Trip to Portland for VTR 2000. I traveled all the way
from Tucson to Barstow, CA after meeting up with Michael Porter, before
realizing that I had not tightened the hitch onto the ball. After that
trip I converted it to a Clamp down type hitch so I could see immediately
whether it was locked.
Thankfully, I had sufficient tongue weight and didn't hit any hard bumps
along the way.
