Wow, I must have missed these posts, or else I forgot 'em. I thought I was
the only nut doing ring lapping.  I used powdered jewelers rouge mixed
with kerosene. I think Bon Ami has diatomaceous earth in it, and I think
Jewelers rouge does too. I've never been able to find it in stores. I
always used to hear of people putting it in the oil or dumping it in the
carbs to get a bad ring to seal. Never had the nerve to try it though a
friend did with his Honda 750---seemed to work.

I always used a jig because I found piston grooves to be too loose--the
rings would chatter when you tried to lap them. Might be the particular
pistons though. And I had this lathe and nothing much else to do with it.
