With a 10.5:1 comjpression ratio, you should change to a shorter duration
cam! The engine will produce more power and will pull harder off of the
corners. A cam with around 290 degress duration would work much better. With
stock road and light pistons and pins, 6,000 "should " be safe if the rods
are well prepared. I used to use 6800 as a red line. The pins and pistons
were extensively lightened and the rods worked over for about 10 hours each
to smooth and lighten them. I got some 30 races and 70,000 miles of hard
driving, then a rod broke at the oil hole and but a hole in the right side
of my block. Fortunately only the 1 piston , 1 rod , and the block were
damaged and all other parts were useable again. I have switched to using
"billet" rods for any engine that is going to go over 6,000 rpm.
