I've looked at a zillion of these, haven't bought one yet. If I was the
tiniest bit organized I'd know where my huge collection of lift flyers is.
The Barret-Jackson auction had four manufacturers displaying their wares.
The nicest ones have a guard that keeps your fingers away from the greasy
chain. The reason I have held off is that a buddy of mine claims it'll
just be a dust catcher. He has one, works on a even dozen big cars all the
time, almost never bothers with the lift. He uses ramps instead. I know,
you can't change tires on a ramp. And I really don't know why people say
lifts get rarely used by hobbyist mechanics, but I've heard it often
enough to hesitate.

Susan and I are looking to buy a 2-post style car lift. My
understanding is there are two types of lifts, hydraulic cylinder
lifts and electric motor/chain lifts.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to either type? So far
what appears to be the best deal or bang for the buck is one from
Autolifters ( http://www.autolifters.com ), which is the hydraulic
cylinder type.
They have a special on right now with free shipping through the
end of November and a free set of truck extenders for use on
vehicles with running boards (like my 51 dodge truck!).
If any of you have experience with 2 post lifts we sure would like
to hear what you have to say. Oh yeah, the main reason for
choosing a 2 post over a 4 post model is the ability of being able
to change wheels/tires on a 2 post lift.
