Hi guys!
Dick Naze was injured at IRP when the clutch let go. His ex-Dan Hughey
TR2/3A had a flack blanket but the force of the explosion at the end of the
front straight sent shrapnel everywhere, The bottoms of the metal
transmission cover were bent at both sides, but fortunately most was into
the passenger's footwell where the pressure plate housing, pieces of the
disc and several springs ended up. There were also a number of bell housing
fragments. One (or more) of these struck Dick's right ankle and the
preliminary diagnosis at the track medical facility was cuts on this foot
and a probable broken ankle. He was transported by ambulance to Methodist
hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. He was expected to be released this
evening.
The race was stopped about the same time, because a Turner rolled in the
carousel. I believe the driver was uninjured.
