This last weekend at the Atlanta Historics at Road Atlanta, (HSR Event), was
a kinda curious event. As might have been expected, attendance was down to
about 300 from a normal 450 entrants. A lot of the long haulin heavy iron
fellows couldnt make it so it turned into a more local event. Even though
the weather was as perfect as a north Georgia September has to offer, (which
is extraordinary), there was still something heavy in the air.
Somehow it brought into focus how lighthearted weve all been for so long.
Nonetheless, my trusty ole TR-4, which has no conscience, hummed along
pretty good. In the feature race, there were 8 cars in our class, mostly
MGBs of course, and we garnered a third place trophy. We also got a third
place in the Rolex Vintage Enduro There were no other TRs at the event
although a couple of Spitfires were running very fast.
As some of you know, I tow a 73 Triumph Trident to use as transportation to
and from the racetrack. Miracle of miracles, even that cranky ole machine
purred along swimmingly all weekend. We rode 350 miles with nothing falling
off.
And here it is, Monday morning. My machines did well, I drove well, I
enjoyed enormously the camaraderie at the track, but I still havent shaken
off heavy feelings of last weeks events.
But it will happenit just hasnt happened yet.
