Bob, sorry I did not get over to see you at the autocross on Sunday.
That was me in the Green P/U truck with the blue enclosed trailer
beeping at you while passing on Route 93. I had a busy weekend. My
ring gear broke on the downshift for turn 3 on Saturday during
practice, and I had to run back to Connecticut to get another axle
assembly, after having to modify it to fit my coil over shocks. It
was a 400 mile round trip. I spent Sunday AM putting that in. After
the warm up session Sunday PM, I noticed milky oil, but just as they
called the cars to the grid, unexpectedly early. I decided that the
damage was already done, so I ran anyway. I started at the back of
the pack since I did not qualify, and worked my way up to second over
all and 1st in class. I was right on the tail of the 1st overall car
at the finish line. Another lap and I could have taken him.
One of the most fun parts of the race was lapping all of the mustangs
and corvettes. They would not go fast on the high bank oval section,
and could not go fast on the twisty section.
When I got home last night, I drained the pan, and the oil looked
fine. The water must have cooked off and was not leaking anymore.
The puke can was overflowing with an oily watery mess. I did a leak
down, and had readings of 81% to 92% with it blowing into the pan.
Looks like the rings may be shot. The engine's coming out, and the
spare will need to go in for Pocono on May 19 & 20th. Oh well! Joe(B)
