just finished test drive on newly rebuilt 4-spd/a-type OD. Everything
performs great - except the downshift from 3rd to 2nd (non-od).
Trans went together according to manual - except the 2nd gear adjusting
washer on front of mainshaft. Mainshaft is non-oe item purchased from
Quantum mechanics. When checking clearances, using smallest adj.washer
(.205 I think) I was unable to fit circlip, even with zero clearance.
Suggested solution was to turn down adj.washer (to .185) for clearance of
.006. This was done - trans assembled & problem noted - great clashing of
gears on 3-2 downshift (even with double clutch & blip) but no other
problems.
does anyone have similar experience (is non-oe mainshaft the culprit, or, is
this too obvious)
or any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
