Actually, the mighty Mayflower ratio was "only" 5.125:1. But it raises a good 
point that I've not yet had time to research: did the differential bits 
themselves remain essentially the same from the time of the original Vanguard 
(and Mayflower and TR2) "Lockheed" axle through the later "Girling" axle? Not 
that any racers are about to use a Vanguard or Mayflower axle complete, but 
that would help explain the origin of some of the higher numerical ratios 
available -- from Vanguard pickups and vans, etc.
