This has always been my experience.  I was never very lucky.  My 4:11 ring 
and pinion set has been sitting on the shelf for several years, while I have 
been trying to find time to build an assembly myself, like I did for the last 
and only successful 4:55.  All the others exploded when built by others.  I 
made myself a crude casing spreader and wooden pinion preload gage.  

This 4:11 set was the last set that Moss in California had.  Now, I guess 
there are other sources, fortunately.
