FOTers
Forwarding this response as requested by Jim. I would also comment that
many FOTers offered to volunteer time for the FOT gatherings, so I do not
think that it would be necessary for FOT to burden the local VTR chapter with
coordination of the race event and perhaps even the autocross. Several FOTers
in Ohio have volunteered to help arrange an autocross in conjunction with the
MidOhio event, so perhaps we could make it easier for VTR regions to host a
national.

Cary,
I've been involved in VTR events over the past 10 years, including helping to
organize the National meet in 1997 in the Dallas-Ft Worth area.
The way the Nationals come about is the local Triumph club chapters submit
"bids" for hosting the National (usually 2-3 years in advance of the event).
Hosting the event requires a great deal of work on the part of the host
region for the VTR event to be a success.
The biggest issue would be if there is a VTR chapter close enough to the
preferred racing venues to coordinate National hosting and the FOT racing.
On a personal level I know that many of the people attending the VTR meets
would love to see the cars in action. The autocrosses are usually well
attended both by participants and spectators (even in 100 degree Texas heat!).
And there has been a grass roots movement to get the race cars out to the
event (1997 was the first year for an offical "race" concours class... with
the cars shown on their trailers).
There are a few people in the VTR on the FOT list, you may get some better
suggestions on how to get the synergy going between FOT and VTR.
Cheers,
Jim
ps. this may wind up being a "private" response, my IP access to the account
doesn't support "respond to all". Ahh, the joys of travel and remote access.
Feel free to forward this on.
