Interesting info on the scattershields etc. Keep in mind that a lot of the
action of losing flywheels etc is the harmonic vibration of the crankshaft.
This is particularly true with the 6 cylinder TR's ( all 6's). The higher
the revs the higher the chance of reaching an unacceptable harmonic
vibration point. I went into this in detail several months ago. One of my
tests on the dyno with a scope and sensors on each side of the flywheel at
the outer edge showed that the flywheel was moving over .625" for and aft @
5800 revs thus actually prying the attachment bolts out of the end of the
crank or stretching the bolts. This is why it is so important to have HARD
bolts not just strong bolts as the attachment system. We also found that we
would lose the clutch most of the time before the flywheel and my guess was
that there are lots of small parts in the clutch to come loose, so one part
comes loose and takes out the balance of the system. Perhaps this is not
comforting but, this is what happens.
