Hi all,
In talking to another FOTer about the Ford rear axle conversion that
I did, I remembered what may be the most important advantage to the
Speedway full floating axle setup (at least in this context). The full
floating
axle uses tubular axles that are splined on either end; one end inserts into
the diff and the other mates with the hub. The hub is attached to the
axle housing, not the axle. With this design, not only is it trivial to change
axles if an axle were to break (three allen head bolts and slide the axle
out),
but more importantly, the hub and wheels stay with the car.
Take care,
John Lye
