Hi,
This is a short one. Well, short for me.
I made my first event this weekend. The car ran okay 'till for some
reason it ate a number 5 rod bearing. I think I had multiple problems,
not the least of which is related to the pressure relief valve...
So my two-day driving event was shortened to one half day.
The upside is the car sounds awesome, and I think if I figure out how to
drive it that it'll be pretty quick. Time will tell, but tonite I get
under the thing and try to figure out if that journal is still round and
if the pressure relief valve is not working right...
But the real reason I'm posting this to this list is that I'm looking for
input/feedback on bearing failure... in my case, the "babbiting" was
"mashed" down to the steel shell on the piston side of the rod. There's a
little "scuffing" on the contact area of the rod journal at/near the TDC
point for that cylinder.
All the caps (except the front main) have been removed and the
bearings/journals all look okay at this point - except for number 5.
I think I must have had a momentary lack of oil - but there's no "bluing"
or anything like that, so I think the journal is okay.
Like I said - I'd be interested in any feedback - on or off the list.
And yes, the Accusump is "on the list". THe MC is more or less "maxed"
right now, so my season may be done if I need to yank the motor and do
machine work...
Sigh.
