Ah, when I was a kid, I was a pyromaniac... albeit limited to making my own
firecrackers, modifying existing fireworks, and roasting models... but I think I
have you all beat... when, on a multi-family dirt-bike desert camping trip, we
spent a good part of a day shooting at sticks of dynamite, set out on the rocky
mountainside... with a high powered, scoped, rifle.
There were adults overseeing the event... and each person, young and old, had
an opportunity to shoot at a stick until it went off (or they gave up)... I
think I pissed off my 3 older brothers... and perhaps some of the others... when
the youngest kid there, me, managed to plug the sucker with only two tries...
beating the camp record of succeeding after 3 tries. I did it, after having
fired nothing more powerful than a .22 prior to laying down and shooting this
powerful hunting rifle. I think I was maybe 8 years old... I don't recall.
Unfortunately, I think we disturbed the mating habits of the rare desert jumping
hairless squirrel rat... and as a result of the explosions and our motorcycles
collapsing their burrows, this fine animal is now extinct.

PS We were a very safe distance away.... the dynamite looked like bacteria under
a microscope, in the cross hairs of the scope.
