In defense of Duncan Wood, I believe (but cannot yet substantiate) that
he used to race Triumphs in his younger years. And as an autocrosser
and vintage racer wanna-be, I find this list very helpful, amusing, and
thought-provoking. I hit the track once so far and plan to do so many
times in the future -- does that count? I understand that the list was
developed as a forum for track racing TR owners, but don't ya'll think
anyone who seriously prepares their Triumph to be driven to it's
capacity has a lot in common with track racers? I hate the thought of
segregation based on TYPE of competition preparation, but Mark would
probably be kind enough to set up an "autocross and wanna-be" list for
those of us who may not fit neatly into the FOT's borders.
I was under the assumption that this list was for folks who prepare or
have prepared their Triumphs for competition. Isn't autocrossing
competition? Isn't it just a small step from there to track racing?
Don't a lot of people start in autocrossing or similar types of
competition because they desperately want to race but don't have the
budget, knowhow, or cojones to do so yet?
I understand I am operating from the young upstart weak position here,
but I would be very sorry to see the list segregate into
racers/non-racers. I have learned an awful lot from the wisdom and past
experiences of everyone on this list, which has and is really helping me
get set to get to the track when I reliably can, and I would be sad to
be "pressured" to leave. But if it is decided that people like me don't
really belong here, I can muddle along just fine on my own.
Just my two cents worth. I certainly have benefited directly from the
FOT, and I hope I have been/will be able to impart my own wisdom/helpful
comments as necessary.
Keep Triumphing,
Susan :)
