Well, yesterday I started building a TR3A with my son Charlie. We
brought it home in a box -- no engine, transmission or diff but no rust
either, chrome wire wheels, BRG (not too shiny but we decided not to
paint it). Charlie immediately started working on the interior,
painting the exposed panels black, while I set about installing the
brightwork and getting the chassis painted. We worked on it most of the
afternoon, and when it got to be close to dinnertime I set it up on the
piano; we'll try to finish it tonight, putting in the windscreen,
taillights and bumpers.

Oh, I probably forgot to mention, both Charlie and the TR3 are probably
a lot smaller than you may think -- Charlie's just 3, and the Triumph is
1/25 scale. It's not a bad model, and a good one to get Charlie hooked
on cars. He was so proud to be there painting the interior, working
right alongside Dad and his big sisters (one of whom had chosen a Shelby
GT500 kit, the other a hot-rod motorcycle.) But this is one way that
kids get started --

One question, since I like to put as many realistic details as I can in
even my simple models: what were the transmissions made out of on the
TR3A, aluminium or iron? The transmission (and the oil sump, for that
matter) are cast into the floor pan in fairly deep relief, and I want to
pick an appropriate color.
