WHAT A SUPERB EVENT THIS IS
The Isle of Man is a delightful island, and this, my first visit, will hold
some great memories.
The TRIUMPH guys won everyone's hearts with some superb driving and even
more after race fun.
The TR race on the Willaston circuit ( main event 3.7 miles of the old TT
course on Saturday) was superb. Ist Charles Gillett, 2nd Justin Maeers in
TR3's. 3rd Nick Cussons TR4. To appreciate how well Charles and Justin
drove their times ( best 2.38.2 and 2.39.8) were considerably faster than
all the MG's - AND all but the winning Healey 3000 in the next group AND
about half the field of Sunbeam Tigers and E Types etc. They also beat two
450S sports Maseratis (best times 2.45 and 2.49 ). A superb ex works
Porsche 906 Carrera sports prototype (260 BHP) achieved a best of 2.37.83.
I went round the Willaston circuit in the course car, circuit is very bumpy
(in braking areas), twisty and lots of camber changes AND if you go off you
hit a wall (if you miss the straw bales).
Charles and Justin also took fist and second in the Sloc hillclimb and
Promenade sprint events. I had to leave on Sunday - so missed the circuit
sprint at Jurby.
When I get official results I'll post them on. I think the secret of
Charles Gillett and Justin Maeers' success is that they both drive in
'Parker' (very expensive) brogue shoes!!
Talk to you soon
Paul
