Hi All,
As luck would have it, I've decided to use the stock TR6 dash for my "race
car". The inner dash is fine, my step-father kindly restored the relatively
"tatty" wood dash. It actually looks pretty good now, not perfect, but hey
- it's a "race car".
At any rate, the top of the dash wood is bevelled and stands slightly
"proud" of the top of the dash... not only is it unsightly, but it looks
like a nice little water collector. I wouldn't mention that except all
three of my donor vehicles had the same syndrome - namely water got behind
the dash and formed rust at the bottom along the line of the lower crash pad.
So, I fixed the "best" one of three that I had by welding some metal in
there, but guess what? The rust repairs are pretty "obvious" and the lower
dash metal is exposed under the lower end of the wood dash panel.
Now, originally I was going to make an aluminium panel in place of the wood
dash, but time and other circumstances put an end to that - so I decided to
go "closer to stock".
Wow, so what's your point, Bob??
Anybody got any usable upper and lower TR6 dash crash panels?? I'm not
concerned about "perfect", I'm just trying to avoid the temptation if using
brand new parts for this job... I'm looking for "good used" and would even
dish out a few bucks, but I can't justify the cost of the 3 (or 4) brand
new pads... all the ones from the parts cars are pretty nasty (but of
course I haven't thrown them out yet!!
So, if you have something useable but not concours, let's talk.
That's all for now. I think.
