One other thing to remember is that the TR-6 engine delivers max torque
at 4,500 to 5,800 RPM's. Winding it does no good. The short stroke
GT-6 winds higher and sounds sweeter, but torque is what moves the
world. In my old Datsun (ex-Bob Sharp B210), a Don Preston engine
developed 165 HP at 8,500 RPM (pushrod) and would run up to 9,500 RPM if
called upon, but you went fastest when you worked the torque curve, not
the RPM curve, which was below 8,500 RPM. The only time I intentionally
wind over 6,000 on the TR-6 is when I wish to avoid a quick up-shift,
only to down shift again, and then sometimes it is best to short shift
(early) to stay in the torque band and play nice to the crank. Bill
