I offer up the name of another TR racer in the name of Donn Sopp, of
Homer, N.Y.. I have known Donn for some 10 years and the friendship
continues in spite of me talking him into becoming involved in Vintage
Racing with a Spitfire. Donn runs in Group 1 in SVRA and has also attended
VARAC and BRIC events mostly in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic area over
the past 3 years.
Donns entry racing was impressive, especially to the instructor who rode
with him in his TR-3 at the driver's school at Watkins as Donn put his TR3
into the Armco having slimed his tires with antifreeze. His wife was also
impressed as the 3 had just been totally repainted! (At least it was easy
to match the paint!) There were rumors about the condition of the
instructor's trousers, but they were only rumors.
All kidding aside, Donn has a number of Triumphs in addition to his
racecar and also a very exotic Fairthorpe Electron which I understand is
for sale so he can build an even faster race engine. I have told Donn about
the jaunt to Goodwood in 2001 and he and his wife are interested also.
