We had problems with fly wheel bolts years ago.
These days we run a harmonic dampener on our engines. We have not drilled any
additional bolt holes in the fly wheels, but we have added a second locator
pin. We use two 7/16" dowel pins as locators (vice 3/8"). One in the
existing hole, and the other 180 degrees from the standard hole. Also, these
dowels are longer (drilled to the full depth of the fly wheel). We use 3/8-24
ARP Bolts (w/shoulder) with hardened flat washers, RED Loctited to 45 foot
pounds.
We have not had a problem since.
