Interesting, Kevin. And a bit of a stumper to me (although someone will
undoubtedly embarrass me by coming up with some little-known factoid
about all this!)
First off, I'm not sure exactly what is meant by "odd Spitfire heads"?
Meanwhile, though, the earlier Spitfires were 1147cc, a bored-out version
of the older Standard 10/Herald 948cc engine (69.3 mm bore on the 1147,
63 mm on the 948). I guess that the older heads will bolt to the newer
block, but beyond that I'm lost. I can try to cross-reference part
numbers and see what that tells me, if anything.
BTW, it's actually not a TR-10, although that has become a most popular
nickname over the years. It was a Triumph 10, a "badge-engineered"
version of the home market Standard 10. 10s were sold in the United
States from approximately 1957-60 in both four-door sedan and four-door
estate wagon versions. There is some information at the VTR web site
<www.vtr.org>, under "models".
