<< Hardy, You have me worried. I haven't seen anything in the 97 GCR or prod
car specs that affects TR rear suspension. I must confess that I probably
don't keep up with up-dates very well, though. You aren't reffering to the
disk brake matter are you?

Chip, some years ago I decided to go to a "coil-over" rear spring/damper
system. I decided to work with the Joe Huffakers on this to get the
benefit of their wisdom, as I have had a delightful working relationship
with them over the years, and we had need for all we could get out
of the TR3. I, however, mentioned that I wanted minimum damage done
to the body and frame. The result was the most expensive project
in my racing history, including Penske Dampers (at Joe's STRONG
suggestion). To avoid massive mods within the narrow confines of
the TR3 frame/body we used a rod and rocker between the TR3
axle housing and the "CO" unit. I discussed this with Frank Eubel,
the head of the Comp Board at the time.
With no admitted member imput, the Comp Board decided to outlaw
such things 1/1/97. I told them that this would require modifying 4
axle housings (i no longer use the 5th ratio), massive cutting, and
because the rocker was not 1:1 the $$$$ Penske dampers would
not have enough travel. I sent pictures, drawings etc to them and
the BOD, although Peter Q (current head of the Comp Board)
failed to "CC" a letter to the BOD that he promised to when I handed
it to him at the Runoffs. I made it clear that the link and rocker were
attached to the SOLID rear axle end only in a reformulated E Production
full of IRS cars, and requested at the least that it be ok for solid
axles or grandfathered for existing set ups. The results zip.
So the Miatas keep their sequential gearboxes & I get the (input)
shaft.
BTW the comp Board wrote the rule change so poorly that it
might prohibit standard rear TR2/6 dampers. ( SR ) 97 PCS ,
page 17, #3 "Rockers, rocker arms, push and/or pull rods
are prohibited"
The link between the lever on the origional rear damper (shock)
and the rear spring plate/ axle looks like a "push and/or pull
rod" to me!!!!! Good Luck Hardy
