Looking for help with speedo gear. I have a 69 1600 and the speedo drive
gear does not turn the cable. The pinion was a bit worn, so I bought a new
one, installed it, still doesn't work. Took the pinion back out, and looked
in the hole where it mounts and I can see that the drive gear on the main
shaft is not in the correct place to engage the pinion. Several years ago I
purchased a 65-67.5 tail housing assembly from Rallye as the shifter
mechanism was worn out. I also had a transmission from a 70, and combined
parts from it with the 69 so now I have parts from 3 different series. Does
anyone know how to solve this problem? I see from the parts catalog that
the drive gear is the same on all, but the mains shafts that the drive gear
goes on are different. I don't plan to pull the transmission just to fix
this, but when I do have a reason to pull it, I would like to make it work.
OR, someone can sell me a working 5-speed!
Thanks in advance.
