shouldn't be to hard for a machinist to mill out what is left of the old teeth,
mill a ring with new teeth and pin in place.

Not really all that tough. You machine out the bad teeth and insert a set of
teeth that are machined on the outside for a press fit. Done all the time
when an insert is needed. Just this afternoon I was working on a vanity sink
valve and found that the chrome handle had an brass insert in it with the
teeth that matched the valve stem.
I know this is not the same as what I am talking about, but check out ebay
item #321657221204. This is my father and he repairs gear teeth on Shopsmith
speed control knobs this way. I can check with my father to see if he is
interested in doing this if you like. In fact, I'll CC him on this email.
As a source for the teeth needed to repair our door handles, just find an
off the shelf knob with the correct teeth, then either buy it, or go to the
junk yard and pick up one. I can check with my father to see if he is
interested in doing this if you like. In fact, I'll CC him on this email.
Peace,

"consider having the spline teeth rebuilt."
I would absolutely LOVE to see this done. The skill involved. WOW.
Do you Pat, or any one else, know of someone who does this kind of work?
