Actually it could be made to handle acceptably well, but it did tend towards
understeer.
When I was autocrossing my roadster in the late 1970's in Improved B, there
were typically four cars battling it out in Improved A: two Corvettes, a
Lotus Elan and a Sunbeam Tiger. A lot of times they were all within a
half-second of each other. It was fun to watch.

Gary,
I recall it was a Ford 260, also. Added lots of weight compared to the
4 in the
Alpine. Ran great in a straight line, but, as I recall, had problems
changing direction.

I've also heard that there was a standard 500-mile maintenance for Tigers:
Re-tighten every bolt in the car... ;^)
They
had what, the Ford 260 V-8 was it?

Be
careful the Tiger owners would be dismayed to be compared to an alpine.
Tigers
had a V8 (in an alpine body) and were quite speedy. My 2000 was not a match
ofi them on a straight line when it was new.
