The rear wheel bearings are lubricated by the gear oil in the diff, you don't 
repack them like you do at the front.  the issue with putting longer studs into 
the flange at the rear is that you have to take the backing plate off which 
requires removing the bearing collar (retainer).  It typically has to be cut 
off - it's something to be avoided unless you're changing the rear axle 
bearings anyway...
