Pete,Your message didn't say anything about how the valves were set, nor what measurements were taken to ensure that the lift and duration are uniform on all four cylinders. #2 is essentially fed from the front carb, and #3 from the rear. If #1 and #4 are running OK, the answer would appear to be with something other than the distributor or carbs. Rebuilt engine, threw mass quanities of new parts at it in addition to redoingcarbs, new points, plugs, wires, cap, condenser, etc etc. Here's the heart breaker: #2 and #3 cylinders are not producing. #1 and #4 are fine, pull wireon 2 or 3 and rpm drops about 20-30 rpm. Pull wire on 1 or 4 engine falters unless reconnect to spark plug. Good snap acceleration. Uni-Syn pretty wellmatched (considering engine miss). Much black smoke --- engine running rich to keep running about 1000 rpm. All four cylinders test 155 to 160 pounds pressure at cranking speed. Cannot detect an intake manifold leak. Enough spark to melt your ear wax, to all four cylinders. Now what?
