Yeah, I remember folks turning drums from a van. Friend did that when he
first got out of the Navy...mid-Seventies.
There's a shop near me that still does it, but not for a buck or two. Cost
me $160 for the front and rears on my 411.

Probably can't find a shop that does it anymore, but back in the day the way
to address this was to have the shoes arc ground to match the exact diameter
of the turned drum. It was a simple machine and would cost about a buck or
two for each shoe.
