Nathaniel,

Do I understand that the pistons in your SUs have a history of jamming?  If 
so, fix that problem.  You should not have to lift the pistons while 
starting -- lifting the pistons only dilutes the mixture going into the 
manifold.

The carbs need to be mechanically correct, pistons, needles, nozzles and 
float level before you can reasonably expect the car to start.
