I have modified SU carbs for the 1600 to flow way more than stock. In
testing I put them on my stock 1600. I measured no increase in performance.
The
stock carbs are fine on a stock engine. However, bolting them onto a real
8,000+
rpm race motor was a different story. It takes quite a bit of time to do a
set.

one of my race roadsters has a BRE prepared engine which has what they

for the air cleaner... flowed darn close to as much air as Solexes but
didn't have to go to C Production as the Solex cars were required to do,
could still run D Production. doesn't seem it would be that difficult of a
modification...the other race roadster was in the National runoffs 3x and
according to the guy who used to race it was the lightest race 2000 Bob
Sharp ever weighed in including the "salt damaged" cars (lightweights)...
they're "available" if anyone's looking for such... ;-)
