I talked to a guy in the cell phone industry - hardware type. He said
they are having major problems with system overload. The industry is in
its infancy and they need a major break-through in technology very bad
or the system will start having a lot of failures. Also things like the
signal strength of cell phones varies between manufactures and phone
type. This causes a "switching" issue between carriers and hardware -
the most noticeable indication is the lag of signal which will get
worse.
Geez, you got to love old Roadster technology!

Yes, I get that all the time. I carry my cell with me incessantly, days
go by without incoming calls, then all of a sudden I'll get "missed
calls" and "messages" indicators. It's really annoying.
